Climate

Due to the fact that most of Malawi lies at a higher altitude, this helps to keep the climate pleasant. The wet season is from the end of December until March. This results in short tropical storms not seriously affecting travelers. The dry season lasts from April until November which is followed by a hot and humid period before the rains come in December. Temperatures can be very high in the lower Shire Valley during the summer. The rainy season allows one to see the lush vegetation at its best, but can hinder travel on the dirt roads in some of the parks.

Dress is informal but some hotel restaurants may ask men to wear a tie for dinner. In the uplands in winter from April until September a sweater is suggested as it can be cool.

Polio, tetanus and typhoid vaccination is recommended. Yellow fever is only required if coming from a yellow fever zone. There is a malaria risk and prophylactics should be taken. Bilharzia is a risk but very minimal near the main beach hotels. Before traveling check for any changes in regulations
